About Me & My Travel BlogTraveling Is a Passion
It’s never easy to write about yourself, so I’ll keep this short and simple. My name is Grace Ventura. If you’re over 30 and wondering if I get Ace Ventura comments, the answer is yes, all the time. My husband Joel and I have been married since 2014, and we love traveling to warm places. Our favorites are Aruba and Arizona. We often travel with our core group of friends, renting big houses and splitting the cost.
Joel is not as much of a traveler as I am, so I have been to a few places he hasn’t, such as Australia. But it works because it allows me to write about solo travel. And then I have someone at home to feed my fish 🙂
When I Got the Travel Bug
When I was younger, our family’s travels included going to the Adirondack Mountains every year, Walt Disney World a few times, and a couple of road trips along the East Coast. It wasn’t until we went on our honeymoon to the Bahamas that I started looking into other vacation spots. I developed a yearning to explore places I had never dreamed of, like Africa, the Maldives, Greece, the Amazon rainforest, Peru, and beyond. Granted, I have still not been to these places, but the mental plans are cooking, and I am eager to go.
Listen To Your Grandma
Many people choose to wait until they are older to travel. They say they will travel when the kids grow up, or when they retire, and have more time or more money. But my grandma told me not to do that. You don’t know what your life will be like when you get to retirement age. What are the odds you will be financially or physically able to travel? At that age, the best a lot of people can do are cruises because they are broken down and tired. So I’m listening to my grandma, who says to travel now when you’re young. Save your money when you're older and do what you can now.
YOLO
As someone living with rheumatoid arthritis, I’m not interested in taking chances. I hope and pray I’ll be physically fit and still traveling, working out, and riding horses when I’m older. But I also have that little buzz in the back of my head telling me to be realistic. The biggest gamble you can take is assuming you will wake up tomorrow and be able to do it later. And I’m not much of a gambler. So, I’m living with the “YOLO” mindset and trying to get out there and experience as much of God’s creation as possible in this little lifetime.
